As you might have seen on social media, I got engaged to my darling man a couple of weeks ago, hooray! I’ve had lots of requests for the proposal story so here it is…
The day Trav proposed also happened to be his 30th birthday. Our plan was to head down south to our favorite campsite for a relaxing long weekend and a camping style 30th party.
When we arrived at out campsite in the afternoon, Trav leapt out of the car and started hurrying off to the far side of the grassy camping area. I threw on some warmer clothes and followed him because I thought he was acting a bit oddly and I wanted to see what he was up to!
I walked over a little ridge and saw him standing next to a beautiful old tree that was surrounded by and draped with flowers along with a picnic basket, rugs, and cushions. As soon as I saw it I thought ‘Holy crap, this is happening!!’ – I couldn’t stop smiling!
Trav took my hands and told me about how much he loved me and how excited he was about out life together. Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and put my beautiful ring on my finger! I said YES!! straight away. It all felt like it happened so quickly and I just felt like I was exploding with happiness and love! It was such a big surprise because I never imagined he’d propose on his birthday!
We sat on the picnic rug under the tree surrounded by the amazing flowers looking over the river and Trav told me that he’d been to see my parents, my grandma, and my sister and her boyfriend the night before to tell them he was going to propose (I conveniently had a speaking gig that night and was none the wiser!). They had all been over the moon and were all so touched to be involved, especially my Gran. I got so emotional hearing about their reactions and we both cried happy tears!
The campsite had no reception which was lovely – we just soaked in the special moment in this beautiful spot, which is also where we told each other ‘I love you’ for the first time, almost four years ago.
I feel like the luckiest girl in the world that I get to marry my soul mate and best friend. Before I met Trav, I never knew that I could feel so much love and such a deep connection with someone. I’ve learned and grown so much in our relationship and it just keeps getting better and better. I feel like we’ve loved each other for a million life-times.
The day after we got engaged, our friends started to arrive and we had so much fun telling them our news one by one and showing them the magical spot where Trav proposed. Just writing about that day gives me goosebumps!
The beautiful blooms and picnic that my sneaky fiancé(!) organized were set up by Kim from Plumm Wood Floral Design - she is AMAZING (hint hint if you’ve got a special event coming up! ;) ) and I’ve still got the orchids in pots around the house that are beautiful reminders of our engagement! Of course we booked her in straight away to do our wedding flowers as well! My sister kindly snapped these pictures of us the day after.
I’ve had lots of people asking about my ring – it’s a beautiful rose quartz stone set in rose gold. Rose quartz is the stone of unconditional love and it’s been my favourite crystal since I was a little girl so Trav did an amazing job picking it out!
I wanted to say a huge thank you to anyone who’s sent their congratulations – I’ve been feeling the love big time!
We’ve already started planning our wedding for December this year – we’re going to have it in our backyard (you may have seen on my Insta-story that we’ve got a bit of work to do to get it ready!!). I am so excited to have a beautiful celebration of love and happiness and I can’t wait to share it with you! If you have any wedding planning tips or recommendations for Perth wedding vendors, I’m all ears :).
In case a proposal isn’t enough for one month, you’ve might have also seen that I’m opening a my very own mindfulness meditation studio – Exhale Mindfulness Studio in Feb! I’ll be sharing the behind the scenes of how I brought this idea to life super soon!
What a month January has been! Like lots of people, I’ve felt a huge shift in energy come with 2017 – ideas are coming to life and momentum is building. I hope you’ve had a great start to the year and I’m looking forward to sharing this big year of growth, adventures, and love with you!
